Rt. Rev. Dr. Sam Mathew, former bishop of the Madhya Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India, passes away. Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Sam Mathew (8.10.1936 – 16.4.2016), the 10th Bishop of Madhya Kerala Diocese entered eternal rest on 16th April 2016. Bishop Sam Mathew, with his vision, untiring efforts and great commitment, led the diocese from 1993 to 2001. His 12 years of Episcopal ministry is known as the ‘period that shines’ in the history of the diocese. He was focused on the rejuvenation of the rural churches and formed ‘Jerusalem Mission’ as a reviving project. ‘Shalom housing project’, which gave new houses of the homeless, was another project that helped the poor members of the Diocese. He started ‘prayer cell groups, Bible Rally and meetings of families in order to strengthen the spiritual life of the diocese. He re-established the “Karappuram mission” (mission in the coastal area of Kerala) and established ‘Thomas Nortan Spirituality Centre’. We thank God for the life, ministry and wonderful witness of Bishop Dr. Sam Mathew. Source: Rev. Sunil Raj Philip
